Everyone Deserves an Opportunity…Enabling All Athletes an NFT Platform

In sports and in life, there are the haves and the haves nots. At the risk of going down a rabbit hole of comparisons between life and sports (of which they are endless), I’ve been especially fascinated simply by the amount of opportunities available to the top athletes as compared to EVERY other professional athlete, simply because of the extra resources available to those at the top. Resources = money and people!

For the sake of argument, let’s consider the percentage of top tier athletes at the top 5%. That might even be high considering CJ McCollum’s (the current President of the NBA’s Player Association) un-refuted statement in the spring of 2020 that 150 (of the 450 total) NBA players were living paycheck to paycheck. If that’s the NBA, what does that mean for every other professional athlete?

Even with new technologies like blockchain and NFTs that promise greater access because of its decentralized nature, the disparity between those that can and those that can’t shines bright.

It seems that every conversation naturally or unnaturally touches on NFTs in some capacity. “What is your strategy?” “How do you see NFTs playing into the GMDY platform?” “Should NFTs be part of someone’s branding strategy?”

We started getting these questions all the time, and we always tried to bring it back to the fact that an NFT could be just another part of an athlete’s brand…albeit their digital brand. And, we don’t really care where these digital collectibles live, GMDY just wants to enable greater visibility, distribution and access.

As our team started digging more into the space, along with the addition of a true NFT pioneer to lead the GMDY technology team, we knew we had an opportunity. Oh and then came the follow up questions directly from the athletes, “I want to get into NFTs, but have no idea where to start!” “I’ve been following the NFT space for a while now, but not sure any of the current platforms will let me on.” “Can you help me with NFT’s?”

If you remember above that top-tier athletes are the top 5%. GMDY wants to serve the other 95%. There is a time and a place to democratize the services that have only been accessible to those with resources…and that time is NOW. All athletes that are interested, deserve access to create, story tell, engage, release, announce, and share more about who they are. More importantly, with their more control and especially with their own voice. The flexibility within the NFT format could not be more perfect to support any and all of these athlete desires.
